Do not make three hooks compete
The first visual, on-screen text, and spoken line should reinforce the same promise. When each introduces a different idea, the viewer has to solve the video before enjoying it.
Lead with change
Show the before/after, the number, the mistake, or the consequence before explaining the background.
Cut greetings and throat-clearing
“Hey guys, today I want to talk about…” spends the most expensive seconds on information the viewer did not request.
Build a clean handoff
The hook earns the next three seconds. The next three seconds must prove that staying was worth it.
